Is intermittent fasting really helpful for weight loss? We've been using intermittent fasting here in our office for a long time. I'm Dr. McLaughlin at McLaughlin Care and a recent study came out in JAMA of internal medicine just this month, August of 22 that showed people who did intermittent fasting in eight hour eating window.

So if you have eight hours during the day, that's the only time you. Versus people were eating in a 12 hour eating window. The people who were eating the eight hour eating window, they were going from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. So they had an earlier timeline and both groups ate the same number of calories and exercise, the same amount, the people with the eight hour eating window lost an average of more than five pounds over 14 weeks.

Then the people they were eating through the 12 hour eating window. Now that's amazing. Isn't it's like the people who did in the first group in the eight hour eating window that they decreased their calories by 214 per day. When in fact they were eating the same number of calories as the other group.

So why does this happen? So when we think about this physiologically, we think about insulin now, our insulin, I always call the fat fertilizer. So if you go for a longer period of time, not consuming any calories or food, you can obviously drink water and have you. Unsweetened iced tea, or you could have coffee that is black and it's not gonna affect this kind of insulin.

But if that insulin stays low for a longer period of time, your body will burn fat because when you're eating food, the body's gonna burn the food. So we want it to burn fat. According to this study and what we've seen over the years in our practice, intermittent fasting in an eight hour eating window is very effective for weight loss.

That's it for today. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and follow us on Facebook at the McLaughlin Care site. We'll see you soon.
