Hey Dr. McNamara here at McLaughlin Care, coming at you with another Wellness Wednesday. Today I'm going to talk about the new Christmas present Santa has brought us, which is the med-Ray class four laser.
Now I'm wearing sunglasses when I'm using this laser because it has some infrared light that does come off and it can damage the eyes. So that is something we have to be precautious of while doing this because this does have four different wavelengths. The four different wavelengths allows us to treat very specific, and a wide range of different musculoskeletal conditions. So what conditions can it help you recover may wonder?
It can help arthritis, osteo, rheumatoid. It can help plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, rotator cuff strains, tears, de Quervain's tenosynovitis, herniated disc, TMJD, helps sciatica, carpal tunnel, any kind of neck aches, back pains, muscle aches, strains, as well as nerve conditions such as neuropathy, and also with post-surgical healing. With any type of conditions that need more proliferation of tissue and an increase in the healing process, cold laser is going to help.
Now, how does it actually help? Well, it's going to accelerate the tissue repair and it's going to do it by absorbing wavelengths into your tissue. When you put the laser on our skin the wavelengths are going to get absorbed by the mitochondria in the cell. Now, the mitochondria, which you may remember from high school biology class, is the powerhouse of the cell and what produces energy. By doing this, it's going to produce more enzymes that are going to help with the healing process, such as fibroblasts, that secrete collagen as well as macrophages, which are known as the big eaters in our cells that helps destroy all of the broken down proteins in a scar tissue that are unwanted.
Some other benefits of the laser is it has anti-inflammatory effects, anti analgesic effects, it has improved vascularity, and it's really going to increase that metabolic activity, which in turn is going to improve that healing of the tissue. It works on any kind of conditions all the way from the head to the foot, and it has all clinical settings preset in there that have been clinically researched to help aid in the healing process. If you have tattoos, we can go over the tattoos. It doesn't matter the complexion of your skin this cold laser still works.
It's a very fast, quick treatment and you'll do it in the office here with the doctor, and it's really helpful. So if you are suffering from any musculoskeletal aches, pains or any type of pathological pains, go ahead and give us a call and make an appointment and we'll see if cold laser is good for you.
