Hot Stone Massage

The hot stone massage is done using stones from Lake Superior that are smooth and round they are heated to about 130 degrees.  They are held in the hand of the massage therapist well-performing a Swedish massage.  The slow smooth even strokes of the massage with the hot rocks are a great way to break up spasms promote circulation and relax muscles.

The stones may be placed along the spine or on trigger points and left for a short period of time to get a deeper penetrating heat.  Sometimes cold stones will be used in contrast to allow the body to vasodilate and then vasoconstriction and decrease circulation pushing toxins out of the muscle.

The stone may also be used as a massage instrument.  The stone is pressed into the muscles and trigger points to give a deeper type of massage.  The deep massage helps break up adhesions and trigger points below the surface of the muscles.
